TIME is a very precious commodity to us all, but just a little time donated each month can make a difference to your local community and around the world.

Launceston Lions enjoy a great social calendar and have fun raising money to support local individuals and organisations, as well as national and international projects.

As members of the International Association of Lions Clubs, members share their fundraising, service activities and having fun with 1.3 million Lions in 202 countries of the world, so where ever you go in the world you will never be far from a Lions Club.

During 2009 Launceston Lions worked hard to assist their local community and perhaps you might know some of the things they supported? Launceston Blind Club, Launceston Junior Town Band, Launceston Memory Café, Children's Hospice South West, Cornwall Rape and Sexual Abuse Centre to mention a few.

Recently they sent money to help the flood victims in Cumbria. Internationally Lions work hard around the world, helping to build homes, schools, orphanages and along with other organisations help the Blind, those with Diabetes, Young Adults with Cancer achieve their dreams and in Tanzania help the heart babies.

All the money raised by Lions is given directly to the organisation it is directed and no money is used for administration. If we send money to a Lion's organised event, then every single penny is used towards this project.

Lions Clubs International is the largest voluntary service organisation in the world, and last year we were nominated by the United Nations as the best NGO (Non Government Organisation) in the world, and yet very few people know what we do.

Helen Bailey, Launceston Lions Club Vice President, said: "Why do we raise money and give of our time? It is the satisfaction that we CAN make a difference. Why not come to a meeting and see how a little precious time can alter someone's life. You can make the difference along with us to make someone somewhere safer, happier and have fun at the same time."
