LAUNCESTON Lion Christine Rowe is the District Governor for the Lions Clubs of the South West for the next 12 months.
She is a member of the Lions Club of Launceston, and this year has the responsibility for guiding and looking after the Lions Clubs in Cornwall, Devon and Somerset. This covers clubs from Portishead to Seaton
Christine has been a Lion for 15 years and has held positions within the District, most recently as International Relations Officer for the South West. She has never failed to be very active within her Club, as many local people will know.
She retired three years ago as the Senior Radiographer at Launceston Hospital, after 33 years, and says that she can now devote more time to Lions and the other activities she is involved with. She is also the Poppy Appeal Organiser for the Launceston District.
Christine took the oath as an Officer of the International Association of Lions Clubs after attending seminars in Minneapolis prior to the International Convention held there.
Lions Clubs International is the largest voluntary organisation in the world, and the aims of its members is to help those less fortunate than themselves. They do this by raising funds to assist deserving causes, or by the giving of their time to help.
Internationally, communities in many countries have been helped either with assistance in the aftermath of a disaster, or with long term projects to repair devastated infrastructure.
