OVER 20 jobs are at risk in Launceston, if proposals are approved to close the town's DHL Service Centre at Pennygillam Industrial Estate. A DHL spokesperson told the 'Post': "DHL Express can confirm that there is a proposal, subject to consultation, to close our Service Centre in Launceston. Under this proposal, a total of 22 employees have been identified as at risk of redundancy.

"As we are currently engaged in a formal consultation process with affected employees, we cannot comment further at this time beyond saying that wherever possible we always endeavour to retain employees in the business and in any situation we look for suitable re-employment options within DHL Express or within our DHL sister companies."

DHL Express is a leading global provider of international road, air and rail-based courier and express services for business and private customers.

On hearing the news, the Mayor of Launceston, Cllr Eric Chapman said: "It's a shock if they've got to close that down. It's local people losing their jobs again and another nail in Launceston's coffin I'm afraid."
