LAUNCESTON Town Council spoke with Jo Beer, of Peninsula Community Health (PCH), regarding the re-opening of Launceston Hospital at the full council meeting.
Ms Beer, locality manager for North and East Cornwall, had visited the council late last year when it learnt of PCH's plans to close half the beds in Launceston Hospital. They were told that the staff recruitment process had begun and PCH hoped all 20 beds would be open again in three months.
Towards the end of February, the entire hospital was closed due to positive tests of legionella. Current patients showed no signs of the water-born disease (which exhibits symptoms similar to flu). PCH then found that the plumbing system required updating.
