Several people attended the special flag raising ceremony at Launceston Castle on Monday as part of the nation's first Armed Forces Day. Launceston was one of only seven towns in Cornwall to be selected to take part in this act of public recognition to the efforts and sacrifices of all members of the Armed Forces. Representatives from all the local veteran forces organisations were invited to the ceremony, and it was also open to all members of the public, young or old, civilians or service personnel, to attend and pay their personal homage. The flag raising ceremonies held across the country on Monday kicked off a week of events and celebrations leading up to the first Armed Forces Day on Saturday, June 27. The Armed Forces Day will be an opportunity for the nation to show their support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community: from currently serving troops to service families, and from veterans to recruits.
