One Launceston fire appliance attended an incident of four cows stuck in a slurry pit at around 1pm on Tuesday, March 9. The crews, along with specialist rescue teams from St Austell and Bodmin, attended the farm in North Petherwin and used strops, animal rescue equipment and farm equipment to rescue the cows from the pit. Launceston Station Officer Gary Chapman said: "All four cows were uninjured and rescued safely. The slurry was four foot deep and it took three hours to complete the rescue." Matthew Pugsley explained to the 'Post' that he was called over from a neighbouring farm that he was working on and helped to rescue the cows with a telescopic handler. He said: "The cows must have climbed on the hedge and slipped into the pit, but they were fine."
