ON Saturday, August 5, from 12 to 4pm Launceston Fire Brigade held an Open Day at Hurdon Fire Station.

Gary Chapman, Station Officer commented on the day's events: "The day was a great success, there was a really good turnout from members of the public who enjoyed the different demonstrations that were held."

The demonstrations included the crash and rescue equipment demonstration, the chip pan demonstration and Charlie the fire dog, who detects for arson, also did a demonstration.

There were five fire brigade cadets from Saltash and Bodmin who did a presentation. Gary added: "There were lots of people, the day was well attended."

Des Tidbury, the new Chief Officer, also went along for the day and the Police attended for a short while until being called away for an incident. However, they did come back.

Gary explained how the day has so far raised a total of £400 for the Firefighters' Charity. "It was a very successful day for everybody."
