LAUNCESTON Town Council has agreed to adopt an area of land to allow its continued use for the benefit of the community.
The majority of councillors voted in favour of a proposal to take on the public green space located off Bluebell Way estate in Stourscombe, Launceston.
Cornwall Council has agreed to provide £37,000 towards the upkeep of the grass areas from Kensey Parc to Stourscombe Vale.
Les Whaley, Chairman of Stourscombe Residents' Association (SRA), along with Vice Chairman Peter Lawrence, attended the town council meeting on Tuesday, March 20.
Mr Whaley asked the town council to maintain the land on and around the public open space, which is currently owned by Wainhomes and Cornwall?Council.
A request was also made to link the path and street lights from Kensey Parc to Stourscombe Vale, in time for the Diamond Jubilee celebrations.
Mr Whaley explained that the SRA was formed early last year by a group of like-minded residents who took up the mantle from the late Stan Mason who, with his wife Audrey, worked on their own from 2005 in trying to get the adoption of the public green open space and maintenance of the green so everyone could use it.
