THE Revd Richard Ward-Smith, teacher of History and Special Needs at Launceston College, was ordained priest by the Rt Revd Royden Screech, Bishop of St Germans in Week St Mary Church on Sunday afternoon.

Mr Ward-Smith, who has been serving as assistant curate in the Week St Mary Circle of parishes since his ordination as a deacon a year ago, was ordained priest with his colleague the Revd James Rudd.

Preacher at the service which was attended by the families and friends of both men as well as by members of the congregations of the parishes where they have been serving, was Canon Rob Dickenson, vicar and their training incumbent.

Priests from the benefice and visiting priests assisted the Bishop in the laying on of hands.

Afterwards a reception was held in the parish hall and gifts from the community were presented to the new priests by Canon Dickenson.
