LAUNCESTON College's Principal has responded to a councillor's remarks claiming the school had gone 'downhill.'
Principal Jack Jackson was welcomed to the council meeting on Tuesday, March 20, by Mayor, Cllr Rob Tremain, who referred to the recent Ofsted report which described Mr Jackson as an 'outstanding and visionary Principal.'
There were two main areas which Mr Jackson highlighted; an article which had appeared in a newspaper and his gratitude to the council for the gift of the tables which had been put to good use in Dunheved House.
The article noted the town council's support towards the college's drive to become an academy.
Mr Jackson brought attention to Cllr Mary Williams' comments which he quoted: 'I hope Launceston College will improve, because I fear academically it's probably gone downhill over the years.
'I'd like to see better results. Will it get better teachers by being a academy?'
Mr Jackson highlighted some of the statements from the college's recent Ofsted report.
This included: 'Launceston College is a good school'; it has an 'outstanding curriculum'; 'students achieve well' and 'behaviour and safety are outstanding' [the highest accolade].
"In the four areas they commented on, they said it is 'good' in every area and none were lower," said Mr Jackson.
