LAUNCESTON Carnival committee has selected its carnival royalty for the coming year.
The committee recently held its annual royalty choosing event at the White Hart Hotel, where six young ladies put their names forward.
After a short interview by a member of the committee, three girls were chosen to represent Launceston carnival and Launceston for the 2019/20 period.
Those selected were — Ruby Redding as carnival queen and her attendants, Lacey Marshall and Abigail Moore.
Launceston’s mayor and the carnival chairman, Dave Gordon told the Post: “It is never a very easy task to choose three winners for the lead roles, but we are absolutely delighted at this year’s choices, and I congratulate the three winners.
“All three girls will have the summer to find their dresses, ahead of leading this year’s carnival parade on Saturday, October 12, which will be proudly led by Launceston Town Band. We will do all we can as a committee to make Launceston carnival a memorable experience for all the girls and I am sure they will not only enjoy the parade, but represent our town well at our neighbouring carnivals throughout the year.
“The three winners were presented with silver salvers and a dress allowance for being chosen.”
The choosing ceremony has been held earlier over the last few years, to enable the winning girls’ parents more time to prepare the girls for the big day.
The carnival committee would like to extend their sincere thanks to Homeleigh Garden Centre for being the royalty sponsors this year, and the White Hart Hotel for allowing the committee to use their premises for the contest.
The committee also wish to thank all contestants for entering, with all entrants receiving a small prize for entering.
