THE presentation of a new Land Rover to the Cornwall Search and Rescue Team at the St Austell Brewery was proudly attended by members of Launceston charity, 'Pete's Dragons' recently.

They were delighted to find the Land Rover adorned with the group's logo on it, alongside the statement 'sponsored by Pete's Dragons'.

A spokesperson for the group said:?"It was a overwhelming surprise and we thank all who supported us in our many fundraising efforts."

The keys to the vehicles were handed over by dragons representative Kate Waddams.

Pete's Dragons was set up in memory of Peter Wicks, a young man whom the team searched for, to thank and support the people and agencies which had helped his family and friends. In the past year they have taken part in a series of fundraising events, including the 'Great British Bike Ride 2010'.

Accepting the keys, Cornwall Councillor David Hughes said: "The majority of the work that Cornwall Search and Rescue Team does goes un-noticed, which is why I am so pleased to support their work in our county. While they do not have the profile of some of the larger emergency charities, I am sure that this achievement will allow the team to respond to incidents throughout Cornwall more rapidly."

Cornwall Search and Rescue Team is a registered charity and receives no government funding, relying entirely on voluntary donations to keep the services running. The primary role of the team is to search for vulnerable missing persons throughout inland Cornwall, and is also tasked with mine rescue responsibilities for the county.

The team is made up of 42 volunteer men and women based around Cornwall. The team is currently based at St Dennis and has rescue posts near Chiverton Cross and Bodmin.
