THE weather smiled on Launceston Square on Saturday as many people joined together to celebrate the opening of the newly-refurbished community space. The opening ceremony included contributions from Eric Chapman, the Mayor of Launceston; Margaret Wills, the chair of Launceston in Bloom and Lorna Lane, Launceston Townscape Heritage Initiative project officer. The work to pedestrianise this area of the town started in 2005 and consultation was carried out until late last year. These consultations prompted considerable support for the proposals.
