THE public meeting held on Friday evening to gauge into re-introducing the carnival to Launceston, was hailed as a great success.
Dave Gordon, who called the meeting, was delighted by the attendance of more than 30 people in the Guildhall.
Following an introduction by Dave, who explained what enquiries and contacts he had made, which included other carnival committees, businesses and insurance quotes, the meeting was thrown open to everyone for a question and answer session, followed by an open discussion.
The result was an overwhelming positive response. Following the debate, volunteers were asked for, which resulted in ten people stepping forward who are prepared to work to make the carnival a reality.
Dave continued: "I am delighted with the response, we now have a group of people who are willing to work to make the carnival happen, which is good for Launceston and its residents.
"I am more confident now than I was before, and I have always been confident that the idea of re-starting the carnival was possible."
The ten volunteers continued with a short meeting to discuss matters of concern, which had been raised during the course of the evening.
The positive nature of the meeting was further boosted by a number of local businesses pledging financial support to the carnival, one in particular was extremely generous.
A further meeting of the carnival group will take place on Friday, January 29, when they will discuss the issues that concerned them at the initial meeting along with their findings. Dave hopes that a date will be chosen and a committee elected, when the real work of organising the carnival will start. He would like to thank everyone who attended last week's meeting and for making it the sucess it was.
