LAUNCESTON Carnival Committee have received a good response to their carnival royalty competition, with 22 requests for entry forms.

The committee wish to remind everyone applying that the closing date for entries is June 30.

At a recent meeting the committee decided on the carnival categories which total 17 open classes, plus best in carnival.

The classes are: Visiting Royalty; Local Comic Float; Visiting Coming Float; Trade; Vintage; Local Historic/Artistic Float; Visiting Historic/Artistic Float; Local Youth Group; Visiting Youth Group; Adults Walking (group); Children Walking (group); Adult Walking (single); Children Walking (single); Best Decorated Float; Best Illuminated Float; Young Farmers Float and School/Pre-School Float.

The committee publicity secretary, Lisa Ford, said: "We are really pleased with the response we are getting for the royalty competition and carnival in general."

The committee are asking for people from Launceston and the outlying parishes to really start thinking about entering a boat for carnival night.
