Launceston Golf Club Captain's Day competition was played in glorious weather on a testing course from medal tees well set back in most cases. The club captain, John Bassett, greeted each player as they came off the tenth green and treated them to refreshing drinks provided by St Austell Brewery.

The competition was a stableford played off threequarters handicap. Several good scores were carded but the eventual winner was former captain Paul Hicks who came in with 37 points winning the Captain's Prize of a pair of matching hip flasks and a splendid silver cup.

In his winner's speech, Paul thanked the captain for all the hard work he had put in during the year and was particularly pleased to be able to express his thanks to Graham and his groundstaff for presenting the course in such excellent condition.
