STEPHEN Wood, aged eight, who until recently lived at St Leonards Road, Lanstephan, received a get well message from Liverpool Football Club, his favourite team, recently.

In addition, he also received a signed photo of his favourite player, Steven Gerrard, and a poster of this year's first team.

Stephen recently had a major operation to reset his hips which lasted six hours and involved rotating his hips 35 degrees and having metal pins inserted.

On top of everything, Stephen is also diabetic and is currently in a wheelchair while he recovers from the operation. He is then expected to have physiotherapy to learn to walk again.

The message from Liverpool FC was delivered by PCSO Steve Edser from Launceston Police Station who said: "When I heard what Stephen had gone through I wanted to do something to cheer him up. Since moving to the Launceston area, the Wood family have involved themselves in several community projects not least the play area at Lanstephan.

"I wrote to Liverpool not expecting to get anything and was very pleased when they replied."

Stephen and his family have recently had to moved to Saltash to a property which accommodates better for a wheelchair and is nearer to Derriford Hospital, Plymouth, as Stephen will have numerous follow up visits and may require further operations.
