Launceston author Jane Nancarrow was welcomed to the town's Bookshop last Tuesday afternoon to sign copies of her debut novel, entitled 'Stones and Shadows'. Residents of the town, including the Mayor and Mayoress of Launceston, Paul and Rosemary O'Brien, attended the session. In the book, Jane recreates the events that led up to the violent death of 18-year-old Charlotte Dymond on Roughtor in 1844 set in the modern day. Still a bone of contention amongst North Cornwall's historians and crime enthusiasts, of whom many believe the wrong man was sentenced to the gallows at Bodmin Jail, the book re-opens the debate and points the finger of guilt at another man. Jane, a member of the Charles Causley Society, also provided a reading at 'Causley's Characters and Strange Events', hosted by the Eagle House Hotel later that evening — a homage to the former Launceston resident writer and school teacher.
