THE Real Junk Food Project North Cornwall has sadly announced that it will be closing its doors for the foreseeable future.

The news comes as the team admitted the project was ‘too much work’ for them to keep up with.

The Real Junk Food Project is a national scheme which incorporates a ‘pay as you feel’ basis while aiming to reduce the amount of food going to landfill or waste. The project in North Cornwall has held a number of events in and around Camelford, allowing people to come along and have a delicious meal, at the end paying whatever they feel they can part with.

Sadly the local project will be stopping their work in the area, but are looking forward to one last event in October to say thank you and farewell to its supporters.

A spokesperson from the Real Junk Food Project North Cornwall said: “The Real Junk Food Project North Cornwall is incredibly sad to announce that we will be closing our doors.

“Unfortunately, even with the best volunteer team in the world — which we definitely had — it was just too much work for us to keep up with.

“We do have lots of thanks to give, though, as we had a fabulous two years. To our volunteers, thanks will never be enough — you are all amazing and we’ve made some lifelong friends. To everyone who visited, to collect food or join us for a meal, thank you so much for your support. To the local musicians who provided live music and helped to make the evenings such a fun, community event, you were all brilliant and we can’t wait to see more of your music around Cornwall.

“Amongst the local performers who freely gave their time and talents in aid of the project were Annown, Doug Richardson, Kaitlyn Elverson, Ash Nightingale, Wes and Pete. Many of these will be performing at the final Real Junk Food ‘last hurrah!’ party on Saturday, October 12 at Boscastle Village Hall, 6pm till late.

“It will be a fabulous night, with loads of music, including Roadkill and Rosa Rebecka, a buffet meal and a cash bar courtesy of Sharon and Ron Muffett of the Napoleon Inn. As with everything Junk Food related, it will all be pay as you feel (except the bar), so come along and help us say a fond goodbye to a great two years, and here’s to the future!”
