BUDE played their last home match of the season on Sunday (March 22) against local rivals Launceston.
With a depleted and injury carrying squad, the Bude manager asked all of his players to dig deep.
The first half saw most of
the possession with the visitors and the home defence had to weather the storm, Jill Haines had a couple of chances missed and Launceston appeared to win the midfield battle. However, Gemma Smith showed her quality as she dominated in central defence and stand in 'keeper Lizzy Jenkins was able to celebrate the goal-less half time score.
The second half had barely started when Haines shot from just inside the halfway line and it fell past Lizzy's grasp into the net to give Launceston the lead.
Bude did not let this affect their game and levelled shortly after. Leona Marsh's confident run up the right wing was rewarded as her cross was converted by Anita Symons.
In a fast paced game both teams attacked the ball, but with all 22 tiring it was looking like a 1-1 draw.
With just two minutes to go a late tackle saw Launceston's Sharon Medland booked and taken off injured.
Bude capitalised on their advantage, pushing forward again and it was a Leanne Stanbury corner that was headed in by Sarah Badham to snatch the win.
That was the Bude version of the match — Launceston manager Liam Dart's report included:
After dominating the first half missed chances came back to haunt Launceston!
In the opening half Launceston were camped in the Bude half. Despite Launceston's dominance there still didn't seem to be the spark of Wednesday night (cup semi-final win over St Breward).
A game Bude in the end wanted to win more and did so but a game if finishing had been better could and should have been put to bed by half time.
