THE founder of the Camelford Community Larder has made the decision to hand over the running of the project to others after stepping down.
Trina White set up the Camelford Community Larder in 2018 as a source of support for people in the local area.
Using donations from local residences, people in need were encouraged to come and take food and sanitary items as and when they needed them, free of charge.
Since the venture began in the autumn of 2018, the larder has gained support from people in the Camelford area, with many lending their assistance to Trina in gathering, delivering and sorting donations. The larder has helped many local people and families during times of need. Christmas alone saw Trina and her team deliver food boxes to 26 families, which included food items and small gifts.
However, Trina has made the decision to step down from the running of the larder, instead leaving the reins in the capable hands of Emma Cardoza, Jill Williams, Alan Bates, Lexy Ness McConnell and Chelly Sturgess, who will now manage the larder.
Following the announcement, Trina told the Post: “After 15 months of running the community larder, I have decided to step down and hand to another member of the committee.
“Who’d have thought that something I started off with just a few shelves would have grown so massive? I feel proud and privileged that I have managed to help a lot of people and families in Camelford and the surrounding areas. With the help of other larder members we managed to help 26 families this Christmas.
“I wish the people that take the reins continued success, and a massive thank you to everyone that helped with donations and their time, and thank you to the person that has given us the use of their land. The larder shed will be relocated at some point, once new premises are found.”
Emma Cardoza, a member of the new Camelford Community Larder team, said: “The Camelford Community Larder team would like to thank Trina White for founding the larder, and the support she and the other volunteers have given to the community since it started.
“We wish her all the best for the future and are excited to continue working within the community to offer support when needed.”
