The talents of members of Launceston WI were recently on display in the Central Methodist Church to mark the 90th anniversary of the formation of the WI. Examples of cross-stitch, embroidery, painting in a variety of media, knitting and assorted samples of sewing were on show, together with a table of photographs and archives from the last 90 years. Members of the public and present and past members of the WI were able to browse and enjoy the many items displayed and travel down memory lane recalling past members, historic occasions and making comparisons with the finances involved 'then and now'. A minute from 1941 recalled a deficit on an event of 1/3d (approximately 6p), which it was agreed to make up from petty cash! "The exhibition was a lovely excuse to take pride in the present and show an interest in our past," said President, Wendy Smith.
