On December 9, 64 Launceston Seniors took part in a "Shot Gun" start individual stableford competition off full handicap.

Club Captain John Mullins was seen to arrive at his parking slot at 8-40 in good time for the 9-00 Klaxon. However he was seen to leave again by 8-45, apparently having no clubs in his car. Luckily he was starting on the 14th tee so was able to drive to the gate near the 7th and be on time.

Graham Williams made a "sloppy" mistake", kindly taking Tim Johnson's hot chocolate down to the changing room after the round he managed to tip it over at the last moment, no more good turns in 2009.

Apart from the 12 prizes there were balls for nearest the pin on the 5 par threes and also for 2's.

Result: 1st, Peter Wall 40; 2nd, Derek Ratcliffe 39; 3rd, Brian Johns 36; 4th, Pat Hayne 36; 5th, Tony Japes 36; 6th, Tom Northam 36; 7th, Terry Swords 35; 8th, Paul Roach 35; 9th, Peter Lyon 35; 10th, Graham Pratt 34; 11th, Robert Loughran 34; 12th, Mike Gee 34.

Annual General Meeting (Seniors Society)

Following the competition the AGM was held at 2 pm. In his Captain's report Brian recounted the match results, the majority in the club's favour, and praised the winners of the major competitions.

He thanked members for an enjoyable year and all his helpers, especially Tim Johnson who had acted as his unofficial secretary re cards and results. There was some debate on his suggestion that the society should have a nominal President and his nominee Mac McKenzie was duly appointed.

In addition the following posts were agreed: Captain, Robin Johnson; V/Cpt, Gerald Cramp; Secretary, Peter Howard; Treasurer, Rex Roseveare. David Bundy presented the secretary's and treasurer's reports which were accepted.

Robin Johnson promised to be an autocratic captain during 2009 and proposed looking at senior handicaps both at a club and society level, the latter only valid for Tuesday competitions, this was in keeping with suggestions that some older 28 handicappers needed more shots to be competitive.

He also stated he would arrange for monthly medals and qualifying stableford competitions to help all seniors to achieve their correct handicaps.

He promised to give as many members as possible the opportunity to play in matches rather than picking strong teams, and asked everyone to say how many matches they would like to enter, an even number as they were expected to play both home and away. Members proposals were read out but were not seconded so the AGM concluded.

After the meeting members paid the society fee and received their bottle of wine.
