WHAT are Launceston Amateur Dramatic Society (LADS) up to now?
Besides giving us a variety of productions over the years they are also working in partnership with the Town Council on the Town Hall refurbishment committee. LADS have been a principal user over the years of the Town Hall facilities since its completion 1887 and have been able to bring a wealth of experience to the table.
Fred Parker, LADS, said: "Over the last seven years we have undertaken a number of projects working closely with the Town Council to install professional digitally based lighting and sound systems in the Town Hall.
"We are now taking another important step which will improve stage facilities for the benefit to the community and all users."
"Having represented LADS on the Town Council refurbishment committee we have in the last couple of year's explored a number of options to improve the stage areas and integrate new facilities for multi use".
LADS project has been supported with major grants from the SITA Cornwall Trust, Foyle Foundation and in partnership with the Town Council will see the stage area transformed, taking out the old stage and curtaining and introducing state of the art theatrical trussing, mechanically operated raise and lower bar for flying scenery, canvas management, electrically operated curtain track and new curtains, stage communications and controls.
The LADS project will include a front of house projection screen, professional projector which will be integrated to their existing sound system, DVD and computer facilities for showing films, presentations and conferences.
With all this in place this autumn we can expect to see the new stage facilities in full use for that classic musical of the Broadway version of 'Annie Get Your Gun' with music and lyrics by Irving Berlin to be held at the Town Hall from January 27-30, 2010.
