GIG clubs from across the area joined more than 140 teams at the 25th World Pilot Gig Club Championships on the Isles of Scilly over the weekend. The bank holiday started with Bude Pilot Gig club's best ever result in the Friday night men's veterans race from St Agnes to St Mary's, finishing 18th. Both the men's and ladies' teams rowed from St Agnes to St Mary's on Saturday in a mass start of more than 140 boats, the largest number of entries. In the afternoon, the teams took part in the Tresco to St Mary's race. The aim is to stay within your group or finish in the top two to climb to the next stage. Sunday saw the teams complete in two more of the Tresco to St Mary's races. In the ladies' final heat, the Bude gig, Bedehaven, fought off Golden Gear of Helford to go on and win their group.
