ON Sunday the Cornish All Blacks staged their comeback of the season after trailing Cambridge 17-0 within 20 minutes as their lacklustre start was punished by the visitors.
Cambridge had the strong wind at their backs in the first half and opened the scoring in the eighth minute with a rolling maul ending with prop Ben Cooper crossing in the right corner. Fly half Lloyd Cole converted from the touchline.
The visitors' lead was increased with a second try. Cole looped a pass to centre Alex Doidge and he sent winger Will Martin clear to touch down on the left. Cole again converted and made it 17-0 with a drop goal.
The All Blacks got on the scoreboard with a close range penalty from fly half Tony Yapp.
Cambridge replied with their third try, winger Johannes Schmidt caught a high clearance kick and held off several tackles to send full back William Robinson over the line for an unconverted try.
Trailing 22-3 the All Blacks got their first try with centre Ryan Westren's diagonal run taking him over in the left corner. Yapp missed a difficult conversion.
Cambridge stretched their lead with a penalty from Cole.
The All Blacks had the last word of the first half with winger Ben Turner catching a clearance in his own half and running through the visitors' defence to touch down an unconverted try.
Fifteen minutes into the second half the All Blacks got their third try with centre Steve Perry and winger Keiron Lewitt being involved in the move which set up Westren for the touch down.
Yapp kicked a penalty to make it 21-25 and Cambridge's cause was not helped by having lock Robert Hurrell sin-binned.
The All Blacks' winning try came in the closing minutes. Perry long pass was well caught by replacement lock Toby Freeman whose run was halted but the ball was quickly recycled to Yapp to touch down.
