MAYOR of Camelford Cllr Rob Rotchell has told the 'Post' that the town's leisure centre will only be included in a designated Cornwall Council trust until March 31 next year — putting it at risk of closure if a strategy taking it on can not be established.

The trust is being set up to take over council run leisure facilities, which would mean those included being able to avoid paying VAT or business rates. The council would retain almost the same amount of control over the level of services, and all existing facilities would remain open.

Whilst the leisure centre will be included in the to-be-formed-trust for the time being, Cornwall Councillors for the Camelford area Glenton Brown, Keith Goodenough and John Lugg confirmed the spring deadline following a meeting with council leader Alec Robertson.
