A WEST Devon man has been selected by the Labour Party to fight the constituency at the general election next year. He is Mike Sparling, 31, currently a Plymouth City Councillor, representing Stoke Ward. Born in Barnstaple, he attended Launceston's St Joseph's School, where his mother taught English, and Exeter Cathedral School where he was a choirboy. He was also educated at Plymouth's St Boniface School and Manchester University, where he studied philosophy and politics. Mr Sparling, who lives near Chillaton, said: "It is a real privilege to be selected to stand for where I grew up. My family own a local waste business and I know just how important it is that we get people back into work."
