THE Knit and Natter group of Lewannick have recently presented a cheque of £600 to the charity, Marie Curie, following their hard work to raise funds for the charity and the church by knitting spring daffodils.

The Knit and Natter ladies created beautiful knitted daffodils, displaying them in Lewannick Church for the whole community to see.

The project started as a way to decorate the church for Easter, but grew into a fantastic opportunity to bring people from the community together to knit and natter, and to raise funds for the charity, Marie Curie, and the local church.

The ladies knitted over 250 stemmed daffodils, and more than 200 ‘broach’ daffodils, and their creations proved to be very popular, raising an astonishing £1,200 overall, which was split between Marie Curie and the church.

The Rev Anne Brown wrote to the Post, and said: “The project was a fantastic success, with people coming not only locally, but from across the country and even further afield.

“The knitters were amazed and delighted at their success.”

On Tuesday, April 19, the group was delighted to present a cheque for £600 to Vera Humby from Marie Curie.

The group is now busy knitting a red, white and blue bunting and knitted flowers for a display that will be held as part of the Community Flower Festival.

Taking place from June 4a, until June 6, the flower festival will mark the Queen’s 90th birthday, and will celebrate the life of our monarch.
