THE Lewannick Knitters have been busy creating various knitted items to mark the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War.
This project is in memory of those who died, particularly those from Lewannick. Joy Wadge, who runs the group, said: “I had the idea to have a swathe of poppies covering the bank behind the war memorial. I asked permission from the parish council, and then the group started knitting!”
The group is hoping to create between 400 and 500 knitted poppies. They will also have a knitted ‘Tommy’ soldier on a board again. Joy added: “A big thank you to all those who helped.”
Any donations in appreciation will go to the Royal British Legion.
