KINGSLEY League champions Phoenix Rising Football Club have a busy fundraising schedule ahead of them. Winning all 22 games in the Kingsley League, the newly formed team are frantically raising funds in preparation for their first season in the Duchy League. Changing their name to Launceston College Phoenix to reflect their alumni status, team members have braved a sponsored leg waxing event, baked cakes for a very successful cake sale and washed Launceston College staff cars. Other planned events include a World Cup themed fun run around Launceston town and a raffle promising lots of excellent prizes donated by local companies. Launceston College Phoenix manager, Paul Martin, said: "We've been overwhelmed by the support given to us by the school and local community. We're especially grateful to local businesses who have donated all sorts of things to help us, and to Clarke's Driving School for sponsoring our kit for the upcoming season." The team, made up of sixth form students, ex-students and staff, was established in 2009 to bring the Launceston College community together, as well as teach young people all the skills needed to run a successful club. Paul added: "We want this to be a club that the sixth form can become involved with. I've been so impressed with the way students have come together to make this club a reality. We hope it will grow into a proper sports club, offering other sporting activities such as netball and basketball."
