A KING Arthur fan from Kent was delighted to visit the place where the legend began this summer.
The Post previously reported on King Arthur fan Gary Miller from Kent, whose passion for the Cornish legendary king resulted in him having his car decorated with scenes from his favourite film, ‘Excalibur’.
Gary has been back in touch with the Post following a visit to Tintagel with his son during the summer holidays.
Leaving Kent at 7.20am on August 24, and enduring a journey spanning seven-and-a-half hours due to traffic, finally Gary and his son arrived in Cornwall and set their sights on Tintagel straight away in order to scope the area to plan the next day and a half of their visit.
But Gary’s unusual car stood out as always, as he explained: “As soon as we pulled into the village cameras appeared and started pointing at my car, followed by mouths opened saying ‘look at that’, so it was a success straight away!”
That evening, on the way to a hotel in Saltash, they came across Crowdy Reservoir, where they pulled over and decided to explore. On the Sunday morning, the pair pulled over at Crowdy Reservoir once again to take some photos of the area and then went on to Tintagel where they went on a tour around the famous Tintagel Castle. “We took a few pictures and again spoke to a few people about my car,” Gary said.
“I was asked what made me do this so I told them about my passion. We stopped off at the Great Hall of King Arthur and then the Arthurian Centre, where again a lot of people asked me questions about the car.”
The following Monday morning they took a trip to St Nectan’s Glen — a highlight of the trip, along with the castle — and then headed back to Tintagel to enjoy a Cornish pasty.
Gary added: “I loved the area and will definitely return next year for longer!”
