KIDZ 4 Cornwall was held at the Hall for Cornwall, Truro, recently, and the shows have raised over £6,800 for music-based projects and groups in Cornwall.
Created by Eily Tatlow in 2007, Kidz 4 Cornwall enables small performance groups to entertain a packed house at the Hall for Cornwall.
The event was compered by Huw Roberts, who was a finalist on BBC One’s ‘Let it Shine’ with his band ‘Nightfall’, judged by Gary Barlow, Danni Minogue and Martin Kemp.
Huw was a brilliant and funny compere — he walked onto the stage to the sound of screaming teenagers and Huw sang his self-written single ‘From the Heart’ to thunderous applause.
Young people from mid, south and north Cornwall all put on a great show. In North Cornwall, Samba Junto Ao Mar — meaning ‘Samba by the sea’ — from Budehaven School were accompanied by their fantastic dancers, a very exciting Samba beat that had everyone moving in their seats. The school took over 30 students to perform and definitely brought a Brazilian flavour of music and dance to this year’s show.
A spokesperson for Budehaven said:?“They have been working particularly hard towards a performance all year, which was taught by teachers, John Mitchell and Bethany Wade. This year they trained up a group of dancers to bring a visual element to the piece which was choreographed by a Year 10 student, Katie Hallett. A fantastic showcase of talent thoroughly enjoyed by all!”
Bude Junior School’s choir sang ‘Sing me on a Journey’ and their haunting rendition of ‘You Raise Me Up’, a wonderful blend of young voices.
Eily said: “I would like to thank all of the performers, chaperones and the HFC staff for making this year’s show such a success. I am always amazed by the outstandingly professional performances delivered by the talented young people of Cornwall.”
