Kernow House care home in Launceston recently presented Made-Well CIC with a cheque for £5000.

This was a special award in the name of former Barchester resident, Jeanette Gill, who generously donated part of her legacy to Barchester’s Charitable Foundation

The grant had been awarded by Barchester’s Charitable Foundation, a charity that helps older people and adults with a disability or mental health problems across England, Scotland and Wales by offering grants to help people connect or re-connect with others in their local community.

Made-Well is a not-for-profit community interest company in Hatherleigh.

They provide purposeful and positive opportunities and reach out to all people but especially those with learning disabilities, physical disabilities, mental illness and loneliness. Their continued development has seen them go from a ploughed field to the commercial venture Made-Well now is, serving the community and offering real opportunities for development and growth.

The community is open to the public and there is free entry. They have beautiful grounds, a café, animals, children’s play area, fresh vegetables and gifts for sale. Made-Well plan to spend the award on developing their existing playpark with a roundabout and see-saw for wheelchair users as well as inclusive gym equipment.

Laura Feaver, manager said: “This is such a boost for Made-Well. We can’t thank Barchester’s Charitable Foundation enough. We will do Jeanette Gill proud – what a generous gesture to leave this legacy for small companies like us to benefit.”

Leigh Stanley, general manager at Kernow House, said: “We are absolutely delighted for Made-Well CIC. It is wonderful that they have won this award, we know it will be put to good use.”
