SOUTHGATE edged a narrow win, their first for six games when they eventually squeezed past Pelynt in a game that should have been won more comfortably, writes Kevin Hoare.

Southgate opened the scoring on a blustery day by playing their best passing move of the game, an interchange of passes between Tom Horn and Liam Hancock was finished off by a low shot from Wayne Francome, but Pelynt hit back almost immediately with a good shot from the edge of the area which zipped into the net aided by the strong wind.

Southgate continued to play the slightly better football carving out good chances for Paul Wilson and Francome and it was the latter who set up Tom Horn to side-foot home to give them the interval lead.

Playing with the strong wind at their backs Southgate increased their advantage shortly after the break when Kenny Channing picked up a throw in, cut inside a defender and unleashed a ferocious shot past the static home 'keeper, this should have been game over. However Pelynt continued to extremely mobile in attack and caused Southgate problems and when a header was scored from a corner their hope was increased, Southgate nervously held out to secure their first three point haul since early March.
