THE Bude for Food Assembly has walked away with the gong for 'Best British Food Initiative' at the BBC Food and Farming Awards in Bristol recently.
Dubbed the 'Oscars of the Food World', The Food Assembly received the accolade for bringing communities together to support local food producers, and for its far-reaching benefits around Britain.
Paul Sousek, assembly host and local organic award-winning farmer, said: "I am so proud and delighted that The Food Assembly has won the Best British Food Initiative.
"Not only has it offered new access to local food to many families, friends and the whole community, but it's also helping farmers and food makers get paid what they deserve for their hard work.
"Contrast that with supermarkets and other forms of retail, where the people producing the food get paid only a small fraction of the retail price.
"It's a win-win method of local food distribution, good for farmers, excellent for our very satisfied customers and brilliant for the environment on our one and only planet. Everyone should try it!"
The Food Assembly enables its 500 members from Bude and the surrounding areas to buy directly from farmers, growers and local food makers and it was congratulated on its innovative platform that is changing the way we eat.
