Littering in the Bridgerule area has become too much for one local woman to bear — armed with a plastic bag she has been collecting discarded bottles and cans in an attempt to clean up the lanes.
Pat Johnston usually walks between Burnard’s House Junction, Holsworthy and Southfield, Bridgerule, and littered along the side of the road are all manner of cans, bottles, discarded packets and waste that could be recycled.
Pat said: “I do despair, whilst walking our beautiful Devon lanes, that so many people’s idea of recycling is to throw their rubbish and drink cans out of the car window.”
Pat would like the public to think in future before throwing their rubbish to the side of the road.
Bin men visit the area weekly and it has become easier to recycle rubbish.
The hope is for people to take their rubbish home with them instead of cluttering up Devon’s roadsides so Pat will no longer need to go out each week and collect up other people’s litter.
