Katharine Muller, aged 15, has once again qualified to swim at the National Youth Swimming Championships that take place over a whole week in Sheffield at the end of July and also the British Gas Swimming Grand Prix, an event for the top swimmers of all ages which takes place in Leeds in August.
Only two other swimmers from Cornish clubs have qualified for the Youth Nationals and Katharine is the only swimmer to have qualified for the Grand Prix. Swimmers in other counties have far more pool training hours available to them as well as more convenient times so they have more opportunities to prepare for top level competition.
Katharine started her competitive swimming with Bude Sharks being coached by Maggie Davies but now travels to Saltash and Liskeard to train in pools equipped for racing where her main coach is Martyn Bushnell. She is also very grateful to have been welcomed by coaches John Rhodes at Launceston Swimming Club and Simon Darbourne at Bodmin Dragons Club.
Katharine has been invited to join Millfield swimming club in Somerset which is one of the top competitive clubs in the UK and plans to take up her place in September.
