KAI Johns, aged three, from Bude, had a fun filled day on Tuesday, May 26, courtesy of Make-A-Wish Foundation® UK, the leading wish granting charity that grants magical wishes to children and young people fighting life-threatening illnesses.
Kai, who is living with Pulmonary Atresia with Ventricular Septal Defect, a condition which affects both his heart and his lungs, is a huge fan of the television programme, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse on the Disney Playhouse channel.
As Kai's bedroom has not been decorated since he was born, Kai's wish was for Make-A-Wish to create him his very own Mickey Mouse Clubhouse bedroom.
With the help of The Walt Disney Company Ltd and Totnes decorators PJB Property Maintenance, his bedroom makeover was successfully achieved.
While the Make-A-Wish decorating team set to work on transforming Kai's bedroom, Kai and his parents, Donna and Graham, were treated to a day at Newquay Zoo. Kai thoroughly enjoyed looking at and learning about the animals, in particular the penguins. Kai was even lucky enough to have an up-close encounter with Skint the lizard and gave him a brave pat on the back.
'I love my new room'
Before going home to the new Mickey Mouse bedroom, there was time for a quick round of crazy golf and a couple of games of bowling to complete the outing.
When the family arrived home, Kai was overjoyed with his new bedroom and immediately got to work exploring his new bed and playing with his new games before curling up to bed in his brand new bedroom, to dream of his magical wish day and, of course, Mickey Mouse.
Kai's mother, Donna said: "Thank you so much to everyone at Make-A-Wish who worked hard to grant Kai's wish. Kai loves his new bedroom. The colours are fantastic and there is lots more storage for all his toys"
Kai said: "I have a new room. I love my new room!"
There are currently 20,000 children like Kai living in the UK with a life-threatening illness and Make-A-Wish believes that every one of these children deserves to experience the magic of a wish.
In 2009, around 1,000 children will turn to Make-A-Wish to have their special wish granted. To help support them continue to grant these magical wishes please visit http://www.makeawish.org.uk">www.makeawish.org.uk or contact 01276 405060.
