THE final tournament of the season in the East Cornwall Junior Badminton League was held last Friday at Launceston College with 19 competitors, writes Jenny Worth.

There were only three in the girls' event so they played a full match against each other – the final was between Millie Parsons of Camelford and Abi Logg of Launceston – in a very good match Abi just edged through 21-18 in the third. In the mixed doubles event the result went the other way with Tony Marshall and Millie winning the group with Kris Jasper and Abi runners-up.

In the boys event there were eight county players of different ages competing. The first semi-final saw Tom Lyle defeating Tony Marshall whilst Ross Lashbrook defeated team-mate Phil Lyle. In a very good final Tom became champion. The consolation winner was Christian Jasper

The stronger boys all played with younger players to make the doubles more competitive. There were some very close games in the group stages.

In the semi-finals Tony and Sam Abbotts defeated Tom and Richard Burden whilst Chris Grout and Jordan Evans defeated Ross and Tom Cole. In the final the under-14 doubles winners, Chris and Jordan, did the double. The consolation winners were brothers Christian and Kris Jasper.

Well done to all competitors for making the evening a competitive, sporting and friendly event.
