The Under-14 tournament for the East Cornwall Junior Badminton League was held last Friday at Launceston College.

Unfortunately this season there have been no opponents from other towns in the Under-14 division but the Launceston College boys have a strong squad and are carrying on the good tradition of badminton at the College – only missing out on the National team finals by one place.

In the absence of Kris Jasper the field was open for the remaining members of the squad. There are also not many girls in this age group so Abi Logg battled it out with the boys and gave one or two of them a shock with her strong clears and powerful smashes.

In the group stages Richard Burden had a good win over Todd Brumwell but lost out in the quarters to Mark Abesamis. In the semis Chris Grout defeated Mark whilst Jordan Evans defeated Todd In a very good final Jordan had match point but Chris fought back to win 22/20.

The consolation final was between Liam Cairns and Abi, with Abi taking the honours 21/17.

Chris and Jordan paired up to take the doubles title by just one point over Mark and Todd. Well played to all.

Thanks must go to Tom and Phil Lyle for their excellent coaching of these youngsters.
