TWO superb saves in the first ten minutes from stand in goalkeeper Julie O'Keefe ensured Launceston gained three points for the first time in three league games, writes Liam Dart.
After two minutes a bad shoulder injury sustained by the Torpoint central defender when she landed awkwardly led to a 30 minute delay.
Torpoint were first to have a chance but O'Keefe expertly saved one handed from point blank range. At the other end Jill Haines shot just over when clean through on goal from a Kelly Henderson pass. Torpoint replied and O'Keefe again made an excellent double save with her legs and then her hands to keep the scores level.
Launceston then took control of the game, Lucy Bounsall and Jess Shirley dominated the central midfield, and the back four of Vicky Pett, Henderson, Sarah Guymer and Sharon Medland kept the Torpoint frontline quiet. A Henderson through ball sent Haines away again but she was unable to find the target, Margaret Brimacombe back up front again, shot over on 30 minutes and miscued seconds later.
The break through came on 40 minutes, neat play by Ria Tilley found Bounsall who played an excellent ball to Fiona Stevenson who went round the 'keeper and slid the ball into an empty net. The lead could have been extended but Haines shot wide, as did Stevenson and Bounsall.
In the second half Launceston carried on where they left off, Ria Tilley drove down the right her pass found Haines but she shot straight at the 'keeper. Shirley and Stevenson linked with Pett and her cross was shot over by Bounsall. The second goal eventually came on 55 minutes, sub Louisa Crick played to Shirley she passed to Bounsall who found Haines who scored from six yards.
Danni Kilby came on for her debut and she instantly got involved setting up Bounsall but she shot over. Further chances came but Launceston could not add to their tally. Torpoint had chances at the end but Louise Dart, Henderson and Guymer were there to clear and O'Keefe showed her quality between the sticks narrowing the angle forcing Torpoint striker to shoot over.
The girls deserved the result and hopefully can carry this on into Wednesday's semi-final of the county cup against St Breward at Liskeard.
