'POST' area speedway fans' have to travel to Plymouth to watch their 'local' team and weren't disappointed as Plymouth climbed to fifth place in the National League table after taking a maximum three-point return from their 57-37 victory over second-placed King's Lynn at the St Boniface Arena on Friday evening.
It was another sound all-round performance by the Devils with skipper Seemond Stephens and number one Mark Simmonds unbeaten until they were both excluded in separate incidents during a dramatic heat 13 which took three heats to complete.
They were well supported by Kyle Hughes, who top scored with 12 (paid 13) points from his five rides, while Paul Starke dropped only two points to the opposition until finishing last in a fiercely competitive final heat.
Matt Bates continued his impressive form at reserve with 11 (paid 13) points from six rides while 15-year-old Cornish discovery Josh Dingle enjoyed an excellent debut with six (paid 10) from his five outings.
David Gough finished behind partner Simmonds in the first heat but was then forced to pull out of the meeting after suffering a back injury while working on his engine in the pits.
Plymouth: Mark Simmonds 9 (4 rides), David Gough 2+1 (1), Kyle Hughes 12+1 (5), Paul Starke 8+2 (5), Seemond Stephens 9 (4). Reserves: Josh Dingle 6+4 (5), Matt Bates 11+2 (6).
King's Lynn: Byron Bekker 2+1 (4), Chris Widman 3 (4), Scott Campos 2+1 (4), Adam Allott 13 (5), Darren Mallett 12 (5). Reserves: Rhys Naylor 0 (1), Adam Lowe 5 (7).
