PYWORTHY'S village Christmas fayre was declared a fantastic success by organisers, with a total of £916 being raised for church funds. The fayre was opened by John Nettles who gave a humorous opening speech which closed with him exhorting all present to open their purses wide and they certainly did. The tables were full with cakes, jams, craft and all sorts of other stalls from homemade cards to knitting. One of the most popular tables was the chocolate tombola, closely followed by the children's Bran Tub. Guess the weight of the cake competition was won by Heather Arbin. The children's 'decorate a star' game received many beautiful artistic creations. The overall winner was Rhiannon Langman. Individual winners were: age seven and under — 1, Tristan Abrey; 2, James Owens; 3, Lucy Sainsbury. Aged eight and over — 1, Bethany Gifford; 2, Kelly Davies; 3, Harvey Marsh. Thanks have been extended to Mary Robinson, who organised the event and developed innovative ideas.
