LAUNCESTON met top of the league Bodmin in their first match since the Christmas break and despite the scoreline there were some positives to take away from this game.

Missing their captain and a goalie Launceston had to re-shuffle and had several players out of position. Jan Grahame and Sharon Trewin drew the short straw and each played half the match in goal and there was no time for easing back in gradually for Jo Maynard and Felicity Batten as they both made their return debut.

Launceston did start well and were a match for Bodmin in the first 20 minutes. The Launceston defence were strong and kept Bodmin at bay for a good spell. But Bodmin were very strong in attack and Launceston were unlucky to concede a soft goal after 20 minutes and this seemed to let the floodgates open.

A second and third goal followed quickly and Launceston really needed to work as a team and keep possession if they were to get back into the game.

Jane Gardner in defence was hitting some great balls through to Louise Dawe up front and there were times when Launceston were able to push forward and test the Bodmin defence, but these opportunities were few and far between and Launceston spent the majority of the game firmly in their own half.

It was 5-0 at half time and after an encouraging team talk from coach Andy Berry Launceston went into the second half stronger.

After a goalie change it was Jan Grahame's turn in goal and luckily for her she had slightly less to do than Sharon in the first half.

Launceston began moving the ball better in midfield and Bodmin only scored the one goal in the second half, with Jan making some great saves. Well done everyone if nothing else we burnt off some Christmas dinner.
