A NEW community bus will serve the Camelford area, following an extensive fundraising campaign.

Users of the Camelford and Age Concern bus launched an appeal for a new bus in January 2013 to replace the old vehicle, which had travelled almost 270,000km since 2003.

Over the past year, volunteers have held sponsored events, bring and buy sales, quiz nights and raffles, in a bid to fund a new bus. On top of this, applications were made to Cornwall Council and the Big Lottery Fund and funding was secured from both organisations.

Volunteer Cherry Whitehead said: "Local folk have literally emptied 'piggy banks' and handed over cash in large and small amounts, some folk even making regular donations to the cause by contributing to the 'purse on the bus'."
