A NUMBER of achievements have been realised over the last financial year for Camelford Town Council, the annual parish meeting heard recently.

Starting the annual parish meeting, held by Camelford Town Council in the library on Thursday, March 7, outgoing mayor, Cllr Kirsty Ferguson, addressed members of the public and her fellow councillors to relay things achieved by the town council over the last 12 months.

She said: “The last year has been a particularly busy one for Camelford Town Council. I took the seat as mayor in May 2018 and Cllr (Claire) Hewlett was elected as deputy mayor. Councillors have attended 57 meetings, plus training over the last 12 months.”

She then presented a list of activities undertaken by the council over the last year. Perhaps the most notable include the completion of the library devolution in April 2018, which has since had an increased footfall from 11,096 to 17,555; a drinking fountain installed in Enfield Park entrance offering a refill option and working towards the plastic free campaign; the OCM Skatepark phase one, which was completed and opened in September 2018, with phase 2 having finished tendering and waiting on grant funding; the town council’s apprentice Lisa Ellison was awarded top apprentice in horticulture at Duchy College; Camelford Community Emergency Plan has been agreed in principle by Cornwall Council; and the Churchfield car park consultation, which finished on March 13.

Over the last 12 months, the town council has overseen 45 planning applications, and has given a total of £8,500 in grants to local groups and organisations, including £500 to Endelienta; £5,000 to Camelford Leisure Centre; £200 for a baby changing unit at Camelford Hall; £1,200 to Camelford Hall; £100 to Walkers are Welcome; £500 to Cornwall Air Ambulance and £1,000 to Lanteglos Church.

Grants received from the council this year include £35,000 from Sita Cornwall Trust Ltd; £1,000 from Feast for Camelford Fun Week in 2018; £1,000 from Feast for the bandstand night sky light installation. Section 106 monies included £49,103 for OCM Skatepark, and £13,032 for phase one of Enfield Park.
