Narberth Food Festival will be taking place at its usual site, the town's old school playground. This was announced by County Clr. Wynne Evans earlier this week.

There had been plans to relocate the event to another part of the town's car park, but Clr. Evans said that, even though the proposed development would have already started, it would be ongoing work of demolition internally of the old school's fabric, which was likely to start within the next six weeks.

"I am also pleased to say that the playground will operate as a car park right up to the busy Christmas shopping period and will close in early January," said Clr. Evans.

He went on to say dialogue was important, and better outcomes for the town could be achieved by a little give and take on complex issues.

"The food festival is identified by the county council as being in the top four events in the county," Clr. Evans continued.

"That not only benefits the economy of Narberth, but also a much wider area, as well as promoting good quality local producers of food - an invaluable service."

Huw Jones, chairman of Narberth Food Festival, pictured with Clr. Evans, said: "Narberth Food Festival is run by a committee of unpaid volunteers, and is now in its 17th year.

"Wynne has been a long-serving member, in fact one of the founding members, and has provided invaluable service, especially with his strong links to community organisations and the county council.

"His tireless efforts help make the food festival such a success and we as a committee are extremely grateful to him."

FOOTNOTE: Sainsbury's was granted an alcohol liquor licence last week for their new Narberth store and will now be permitted to sell alcohol between 7 am and 11 pm. As all conditions attached to the premises licence were sufficient to promote the four licensing objectives, the application did not fall within the remit of the licensing sub-committee and was dealt with under the appropriate scheme of delegated powers granted to the director of development.
