ROB?HOOPER has been running the Morwenstow Branch of the Retired Greyhound Trust (RGT) for a little over 12 months, alongside Ruxmoor Boarding Kennels and Cattery.
Based in Shop, the branch has purpose built living spaces for greyhounds, that he cares for until new owners can be found for them. Rob says that 99 per cent of the dogs the are sent to the branch are retired racers and in need of a change of pace.
"The dogs are generally in good physical condition; they have come from a racing background. What we are doing is not strictly 're-homing' them, as they have come from a kennel environment. We are 'homing' them, giving them the training they need to be able to live in a home with new people. It takes a lot of training, but what you get back — love, care and affection — is a pleasure to behold. They are fantastic, 100 per cent loyal creatures."
Rob has had three greyhounds of his own over the years and his current dog shares his home with a doberman.
