THERE were record numbers yet again for the Brown Willy Run on New Year’s Day.
Despite dreadful weather, the run was deemed to be very successful, and saw 485 people take part — 120 more than last year.
The seven-mile event, which again started at Jamaica Inn, runs across Bodmin Moor to the summit of Brown Willy, the highest tor in Cornwall, at 1,378 feet.
As well as more runners, the event raised more money for charities.
More than £2,000 was raised, which will be halved between Penhaligon’s Friends, a Cornish charity supporting bereaved children, young people, parents and carers throughout the county, and Cornwall Search and Rescue Team, who helped at the event.
First man back was Andrew Boyd from Brixton, London, and first woman Eleanor Davis from St Agnes. Andrew used to work at?Treliske Hospital.
Run organiser Beth Key, of Truro Running Club, told the Post: “It was really good and really successful. The weather was so awful we didn’t know how many people would turn up, but we had record numbers.”
Mrs Key, who was stationed on the top of the tor as a marshal, and cheered on the runners, said participants are not timed, as it is more of a social run: “It’s a good way to kick start people’s fitness.”
